China
In 2009 Pearson bought the Wall Street English chain of schools in China for 145 million USD. They own about 66 schools in China now teaching some 500,000 students. In 2011 they announced a plan to open a further 50 schools in cities including Nanjing, Suzhou and Dongguan.
Outside the UK and the US this is Pearson’s largest presence with 3,000 employees in China and a further 2,000 jobs coming up in the new schools.
