Clare McDowell is an Australian ELT author specializing in IELTS preparation books.
McDowell graduated with a BA in French & Spanish language and literature from the University of South Wales in Australia in 1979. This was followed by an MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of Sydney. She also has a DELTA which she took in 1981.
Following graduation McDowell moved into teaching and then language testing, test design and then writing. For over 20 years she helped deliver the Cambridge Assessment exams in Australia, retiring only in 2012.
She is currently director of the A.R.T.S. Australian Research & Testing Services in Sydney.
With her UK based colleague, Vanessa Jakeman, she has successfully co-authored a wide range of course books for the IELTS classroom as well as preparation texts for IELTS self-study. These books are highly regarded and have enjoyed world-wide recognition and sales.The books are published by Cambridge University Press and Longman.
