IATEFL is the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language.
It is a respected organization set up in the UK in 1967. It brings together over 4,000 teachers & administrators, writers, publishers and other professionals involved in teaching English as a foreign language.
It holds regular conferences and also includes over 3,500 more local groups in 100 countries. These are both general groups as well as SIGs (Special Interest Groups) looking at certain aspects of teaching English such as CALL, etc.
Individual schools and TEFL teachers can join IATEFL for a fee to receive their publications, reduced rates for conferences, and reduced priced ELT publications. If you are interested in making a career out of TEFL and would like to keep up to date with new ideas, developments and so on, then IATEFL is definitely a good idea. Conferences and workshops often present new ideas for the classroom and are often worth following.
IATEFL and TEFL Certificate Accreditation
Note that IATEFL does NOT accredit any school or course provider. As a respected organization their name has been used by some scam schools and TEFL certificates to suggest they are accredited by them.
This is not true. If you are looking for a TEFL certificate course and the provider implies or states outright they are accredited by IATEFL then this is a scam.
